Introducing our patron saint for the upcoming spring edition:

St. HILDEGARD VON BINGEN

Hildegard (1098-1179) was an abbess, composer, mystic, preacher, healer, herbalist, cosmologist, monastic mandala painter, and writer in Bingen am Rhein (current day Germany) during the Middle Ages. Hildegard wrote books as well as music, preached, rebelled against the constricting Roman church order, founded her own monastery for women and became somewhat of a beloved celebrity in the Roman empire. Throughout her life, she had countless mystical experiences, visions and encounters with the divine realms, and she was convinced that playing and singing music is of utmost importance for a person to remain healthy. Her story is fascinating and vast to say the least, and we are excited to bring her memory to life during Café Witch this spring.

What does the symbol of various flowers invoke to you? What might it mean for local and popular cultures, both then and now?

The THEME of this year's spring edition is 'flower power' - join us as we explore and learn about herbalism, plants, flowers and other wisdom, folklore and stories related to the plant life of the earth.
